Years of Journey
The Assemblies of God Church in Nigeria began in 1934 in Old Umuahia, Abia State, founded by Nigerian believers like Augustus Ehurie Wogu. Initially called the Church of Jesus Christ, it adopted the name Assemblies of God in 1939 and formed a partnership with the Assemblies of God Mission, USA, to receive support for training and ministry. The church grew from this foundation, becoming one of Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal denominations, characterized by its emphasis on the full gospel, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and indigenous leadership.
